ANTIQUE CLOCK REPAIRS AND RESTORATION

Peter Richardson working on an antique clockFor three generations, Richardsons of Ampthill have been dedicated to the repair and restoration of antique clocks. Our three specialists workshops ensure that your treasured possession receives the expert care and attention it deserves. Our small clocks workshop is situated at our premises in The Market House, Ampthill and within two miles of Ampthill we have two further workshops, one for the repair of larger clocks and the other for cabinet work.

Work on your clock starts with a consultation with one of our experts. For small and medium sized clocks this is usually carried out at our shop in Ampthill. For long case clocks and larger clocks we can arrange to visit you at you home. During the consultation, we will discuss the age and condition of your clock and give an overview of the repairs and restoration necessary. We will also give an approximate estimate of the costs involved.

If you are happy with this, the clock is then taken to our workshops where it is completely taken apart and each component carefully examined. Historical research is then carried out to establish the age of the clock and its maker to ensure that work carried out is appropriate for the age and quality of the clock.

A report detailing the work required on the mechanism, and where necessary the dial and case and a more accurate estimate of the costs, is then sent to you. One you have had an opportunity to consider the report you can then contact us for further discussions until you are completely satisfied.

We will, of course keep you informed of any interesting developments during the course of the work. Once the work is completed, your clock will then have to undergo a rigorous testing programme at the end of which it will have had to work satisfactorily for at least a month. Most larger clocks and all long case clocks we deliver and set up in your home. We provide full instructions for their care and 12 months guarantee. We are also available to provide advice if you encounter any problems once the clock is returned to you.

If you would like to discuss the repair and restoration of your clock with one of our experts, please telephone 01525 403474 or e-mail Peter Richardson FBHI at peter@richardsonsofampthill.co.uk or Philip Richardson RJ Dip. FNAG at phil@richardsonsofampthill.co.uk
